The brainchild of Gloria Ragesh, Wild Gloriosa creates music that is prayerful and seductive - a marriage of smooth and soulful influences sitting at the intersection of R&B, Neo Soul and Jazz. With South Indian roots and a Singaporean upbringing, Wild Gloriosa’s journey spans diverse landscapes. Taking her name from Tamil Nadu’s state flower Gloriosa (flame lily), Wild Gloriosa was raised in a household where music was a way to connect with the community, and songwriting a canvas for sharing messages with the world. Her new single ‘All Wishes Come True’ is a reminder of the importance of uplifting others, especially those we trust and love. Tastefully backed by restrained RnB/Soul production, the centrepiece is Gloria’s clear, liquid vocals.
Angelic keys trickle in accompanied with a warm, groove laden bassline. Drums are subtle yet propulsive, reminiscent of Erykah Badu’s ‘Rimshot’, setting the scene quickly for Gloria’s voice to confidently take the reins. At only 24, her voice is assured and authentic, unafraid to bare deep emotion within her storytelling. Moving skillfully through jazz-informed runs that add subtle harmonic flair, the song firmly sits within the soulful leaning side of RnB. “What makes a friend, is it years and time or a silent trust that we both know we share? Why can’t we ascend together? Why can’t we uplift each other?” are lyrics expressing a situation between friends in which jealousy of each other's achievements leads to a parting of ways. Gloria adds, “This song is a reflection of a friendship I had. One that consisted of one-sided jealousy. It’s a plea to that friend, wondering why we can’t both be successful together instead of pitting ourselves against each other.”
With past performances supporting renowned artists such as Jessica Mauboy, The Jungle Giants, and The Bamboos, playing festivals such as Melbourne International Jazz festival and Queenscliff Music Festival and recently winning the Music Victoria Diaspora (2024) award, Wild Gloriosa is one to be watched, carving out her own path within Naarm’s music community.
